When Is The Best Time To Visit The Virgin Islands?

You would think that all the Caribbean islands are a delight to visit all year round and they definitely can be, but there are things to consider when choosing a Caribbean destination for your next tropical vacation. You can use this short travel guide to help you plan a trip to the British Virgin Islands, where you can explore hiking trails, unspoiled, beautiful beaches, and snorkel the warm, azure waters and coral reefs.

The average temperatures for the Caribbean region ranges from 74-89 fahrenheit with an average high of 76 degrees. The hottest months run from July, August & September. However, these months are known to be the hurricane season - especially the month of September when we have the occasional tropical depression, tropical storm, and hurricanes. Residents of the BVI stay alert for the end of August to end of September as they were hit by Hurricane Irma and Maria in September 2017 which devastated the country.

The cruise ships run for the high season; which is the period from October to June and this is our busiest time of year and the most popular time to visit the BVI, before the slower season kicks.

November is known to be rainy season so this is when there will be plenty of mosquitos, but if you wear Deet or OFF in the evenings, then you won’t even notice!

From December to April we have the annual tradewinds which is great for the sailboats and marine industry. If you love watersports, then the tradewinds are also great for those that are keen to surf and the best beaches to do this would be Josiah’s Bay or Trunk Bay.

Our dry season is April to May which does means there will be less mosquitos and the normally lush, green hillsides are slightly brown. However, during this time, it also means that the sun is out in full force and you will get a GREAT tan!

You can also visit our neighboring islands of St. John, St. Thomas, or St. Croix, located in the US Virgin Islands, and these islands experience similar seasons and weather.

Don’t forget with our private water taxi services, we offer roundtrip transfers between the main islands of the USVI & BVI with the pick up locations being: Red Hook or Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas or Cruz Bay in St. John.
