When is Hurricane Season in the Virgin Islands? A short travel guide.

The National Hurricane Center, or NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), states that the Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1st to November 30th annually. This is the time of year when it typically starts to become hotter and more humid, and heavy rains can also be expected, especially in November. The hottest months are July, August & September. Tropical depressions and tropical storms in the Atlantic are more prevalent during this period, with the potential to affect the leeward islands, such as the British and US Virgin Islands.

It was in September 2017 when Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria devastated the British Virgin Islands and United States Virgin Islands, causing widespread destruction. These were two major hurricanes that effected not only the BVI (though we did get the worst of it), but also the USVI (St. Croix, St. John, & St. Thomas), Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, St. Maarten and Florida. It was recorded that the winds were in excess of 220 mph, and mini tornadoes were formed inside the hurricane. At the time, this was the world's strongest hurricane ever recorded to make landfall.
