BVI Ferry Schedule Guide
The British Virgin Islands (BVI) are a collection of islands connected by various ferry services. Whether you’re traveling between Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Jost Van Dyke, ferries are one of the most popular ways to get around. In fact, by water is by far the easiest and quickest way to get around the BVI as we have multiple different and unique islands to explore!
Show Me the Ferry Routes for Travel Between the BVI Islands
Most BVI ferry services depart from Road Town, West End, Trellis Bay, or Beef Island. Common routes include:
Road Town (Tortola) and Virgin Gorda (Spanish Town)
Trellis Bay (Beef Island) and Virgin Gorda (North Sound & Spanish Town)
West End (Tortola) and Jost Van Dyke (Great Harbour)
Road Town and Anegada (Setting Point) with select services (often limited to a few days per week)
Routes and schedules do change so it is worth checking with the ferry companies in advance to ensure that the destination and timings suit your needs.
Where Can I Purchase Tickets for the BVI Ferry?
You can usually buy ferry tickets online via ferry companies’ websites or in person at the ferry dock or ferry terminal. Most operators accept credit cards, though cash may be required for their hidden extras like baggage fees, environmental fees, departure tax etc. Remember at Chillout Charters our pricing is ALL INCLUSIVE! NO HIDDEN FEES!
Some travelers also book through car rental companies or tour operators, especially when pairing transportation with accommodation.
Travel Tips for Using the BVI Ferry Service
Arrive at least 1 hour early at the ferry terminal. It’s good to allow for plenty of time before the ferry departs to ensure that everything is in order and you do not miss the ferry as they have a cut off time.
Carry your passport for BVI–USVI routes.
Be prepared for an additional departure tax when leaving the BVI. The fee is currently $20.00 USD per person for non-residents. Typically, these fees are not included in the ticket prices. There is also a $10 USD per person arrival tax. Additional dock fees may also be applicable.
Schedules may shift during hurricane season, so it is always worth double-checking the weather before you go anyone on the day.
Consider a private powerboat transfer with Chillout Charters if you want to maximize island time and skip the lines.
